Can you convert a Word document, PowerPoint presentation, or Flash file into online training?
All three types of files can be used as source materials for courses created through the SyberWorks Web Author tool. Word documents are the standard input for Web Author. PowerPoint presentations also can be used in online training once they are converted to Flash files (using the free iSpring tool available with Web Author). And Flash files can be inserted in courses through Web Author. In addition, any type of browser-supported file can be directly converted into online training by loading it into the LMS/LCMS system as a Course Type of OTHER (which in newer versions of the software, is called HYBRID).

How much do you charge to develop an online course?
This depends upon the content, the question types, and media associated with developing the course. Courses that contain lots of multi-media graphics, intricate sound recordings, and proprietary images will require more resources and cost more to produce. Courses that are being converted from straight Word documents or PowerPoint presentations, with minimal multi-media requirements, would cost less. For more information, call 888-642-7078.

Standards

What does SCORM/AICC-compliant mean?
SCORM stands for Sharable Courseware Object Reference Model (SCORM), which is a set of specifications that, when applied to course content, produces small, reusable e-Learning objects. A result of the Department of Defense’s Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) initiative, SCORM-compliant courseware elements are easily merged with other compliant elements to produce a highly modular repository of training materials.
AICC standards apply to the development, delivery, and evaluation of training courses that are delivered via technology. AICC stands for the Aviation Industry CBT [Computer-Based Training] Committee (AICC), which is an international association of technology-based training professionals that develops training guidelines for the aviation industry.

What does Section 508-compliant mean?
Americans with Disabilities Act Section 508 requires that when Federal agencies develop, procure, maintain, or use electronic and information technology (EIT), Federal employees with disabilities must have comparable access to, and use of, information and data as do Federal employees who have no disabilities, unless an undue burden would be imposed on the agency.
Section 508 also requires that individuals with disabilities who are members of the public seeking information or services from a Federal agency must have comparable access to, and use of, information and data as do the public without disabilities, unless an undue burden would be imposed on the agency.
Although Federal agencies have an explicit statutory obligation to make all EIT that they develop, maintain, or use compliant with Section 508, the current emphasis is on newly procured EIT, because it is the category that is explicitly enforceable by legal action. It should be noted, however, that other Federal regulations and guidelines (e.g., Section 501 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act) also require equal access for individuals with disabilities. Therefore, Federal agencies are required, upon request, to provide information and data to individuals with disabilities through an alternative means of access that can be used by the individuals.
