Dave Boggs, CEO of SyberWorks, states, “This month’s episode examines how a large multi-facility hospital tracks and manages training for 20,000 employees across all of its medical complexes in the metropolitan Detroit area. Because hospitals are so heavily regulated, the training system is used by all employees, from contract employees, medical professionals, volunteers, students, physicians, and entry-level employees, all the way up to senior managers.”
Boggs says, “The interview explores the business case for using assigned training mandatories and competencies to achieve regulatory compliance. The training department also uses the SyberWorks Learning Management System also provide training reports and audit trails for Joint Commission accreditors, when they come in to investigate patient cases.”
Boggs continues, “The podcast also explores Beaumont's approach to blended learning, using both online courses that they create and already-developed content that they purchase.” The series is narrated by Mary Kay Lofurno, Director of Marketing and GSA Contracts at SyberWorks.

About William Beaumont Hospitals
Beaumont Hospitals opened on January 24, 1955 as a 238-bed community hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. Today, the hospital is a 1,061-bed major academic and referral center with Level 1 trauma status, and is Michigan's first Magnet-designated hospital for nursing excellence. The hospital ranks first in the United States for in-patient admissions and second for its number of surgeries. A second Beaumont hospital opened in Troy in 1977 as a 200-bed acute-care community teaching hospital. It is now among the nation's highest-volume community hospitals, with 361 beds, and is third in number of admissions and fourth in surgeries among hospitals of its size. In October 2007, Beaumont became a regional health provider when it acquired a third community hospital with 289 beds in Grosse Pointe. Ninety-one medical and surgical specialties are represented by Beaumont's medical staff of more than 3,100 physicians. The hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission.
Beaumont is a major teaching facility, with 37 accredited residency and fellowship programs and 400 residents and fellows. For undergraduate training, it is affiliated with the University of Michigan and Wayne State University schools of medicine. Beaumont also has a nursing affiliation with Oakland University (including a top-ranked certified-registered-nurse-anesthetist school), and is partnering again with O.U. to establish and open a private medical school in 2010.
