Last week, Dave Powell talked about color coding. This week, Dave will talk about disability legislation, the Disability Discrimination Act. So I ask you; “Do you know your E-Learning Lingo?”

Mary Kay: Hi, Dave. So tell us about the Disability Discrimination Act and why it's important.
David Powell: Enacted in the U.K. in 1995, the Disability Discrimination Act prohibits private employers, state and local governments, employment agencies, and labor unions from discriminating against qualified individuals with disabilities. Discrimination is forbidden when handling job applications, hiring, firing, making advancement decisions, setting compensation, providing job training, and in all other terms, conditions, and privileges of employment.
It is similar to the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act, which also prohibits governments, employers, and labor unions from discriminating against people with disabilities. Both of these laws are important because they have also become driving forces behind accessibility, especially with regard to technology and the Internet.
