Announcer: The e-Learning Lingo Podcast.

Mary Kay Lofurno: Hello, Mary-Kay Lofurno, Marketing Director here at SyberWorks. Welcome to the 136th episode of the e-Learning Lingo Podcast Series. Last week, Dave Powell talked about Chief Learning Officers. This week, Dave defines SENDA.

So, I ask you, do you know your e-learning lingo?

Mary Kay: All right, Dave, tell us about SENDA.

Dave Powell: SENDA is an acronym that stands for the Special Educational Needs and Disability Act of 2001. This bill amended the Disability Discrimination Act, also known as DDA, which was passed in 1995.

Before SENDA, the DDA only protected the rights of disabled individuals in the areas of housing, employment, and the provision of goods and services. SENDA extended these rights to education as well.

Mary Kay: All right. Sounds good, Dave. What is the primary objective of this act?

Dave: SENDA seeks to level the educational playing field for disabled students. It is designed to protect these individuals from being discriminated against when they apply to universities or otherwise seek to further their education.

Mary Kay: Very interesting, Dave. Thanks. Have a great afternoon!

Dave: You, too. Talk to you soon.

Mary Kay: This is Mary Kay Lofurno, Marketing Director at SyberWorks. Thanks for listening to Episode 136 of the e-Leaning Lingo Podcast. This week Dave Powell talked about SENDA. The Episode 136 Podcast audio and transcript will be posted on the e-Learning Lingo Podcast Blog.

Next time on the e-Learning Lingo Podcast we’ll talk about another term used in human development. Until that time, have a great week!
