This week, Dave defines Didactic Instruction. So, I ask you, do you know your e-learning lingo?

Mary Kay: All right, Dave. What is didactic instruction?
Dave Powell: Didactic instruction is teacher centered instruction in which the instructor tells students what to think about a given topic. This method is typically used for the delivery of factual, not debated, information.
Didactic instruction is most effective when it is carefully planned out, highly focused and delivered concisely.
Mary Kay: All right. Are there any drawbacks to using this type of method, Dave?
Dave: Opponents of didactic instruction believe that in encourages passive learning because students are not engaged in the discussion or forced to think independently to solve problems or understand complex material.
