Announcer: The e-Learning Lingo Podcast.

Mary Kay Lofurno: Hello, this is Mary Kay Lofurno, Marketing Director here at SyberWorks. Welcome to the 116th episode of the e-Learning Lingo Podcast Series.

Last week, Dave Powell talked about ergonomics. This week, Dave defines cognitive apprenticeship.

So I ask you, do you know your e-Learning Lingo?

[theme music]

Mary Kay: Hi, Dave. Tell us about the cognitive apprenticeship.

Dave Powell: Like a traditional apprenticeship in which a student learns a trade by observing someone who is already skilled in it, cognitive apprenticeships allow students to learn skills by working with a teacher.

There are two main forms of cognitive apprenticeship. The first has students work with instructors on problems that may be too difficult to tackle without help. The second form has students focus on real world issues, and in the process reinforces learned materials and increases understanding of the subject.

Mary Kay: Thanks, Dave. Have a great afternoon.

Dave: You, too. Talk to you soon.

Mary Kay: This is Mary Kay Lofurno, Marketing Director at SyberWorks. Thanks for listening to Episode 116 of the e-Learning Lingo Podcast.

This week, Dave Powell talked about cognitive apprenticeship. The Episode 116 podcast audio and transcript will be posted on the e-Learning Lingo Podcast blog.

Next time on the e-Leaning Lingo Podcast, we’ll talk about a term used in classroom training. Until that time, have a great week.
